Create, apply, and alert on a WMI monitor

This article describes how to create, apply, and alert on a WMI monitor.


All SAM versions


Creating a WMI Monitor:

  1. From the web console, navigate to Settings > SAM Settings > Create a New Template.
  2. Enter a name for the template then click Add Component Monitor and select WMI Monitor. When done, click Add.
  3. Select credentials or choose to Inherit Credentials from Node.
  4. In the Query field, enter a WQL query to return a statistic that you want to be reported.
  5. Manually enter thresholds or check Use thresholds calculated from baseline data.
  6. When done, click Submit.

Applying the WMI Monitor Template:

  1. From the web console, navigate to Settings > SAM Settings > Manage Templates.
  2. Search for your template, check it, then click Assign to Node.
  3. Select the Windows node from the left pane then click the green arrow to move it to the right pane, then click Next.
  4. Choose the credentials, then click Assign Application Monitor, then click Done.

Alerting on the WMI Application via Email:

  1. From the web console, navigate to Home > Alerts > Manage Alerts.
  2. Click Add New Alert, then enter a name for the alert.
  3. Evaluate and complete the properties on the Properties tab, then click Next.
  4. For the Trigger Conditions portion, select the following:
  5. Important: You will need to add the second trigger condition by clicking [+].Thefirsttrigger condition tests for Status. The second condition tests for the specific application instance. (The WMI application instance being tested is indicated by, 1 Object.)
  6. For the Trigger Actions portion, click Add Action, select Send an Email/Page, then click Configure Action.
    1. Enter your email address and other fields as required, then click Next and complete the email wizard as instructed, then click Submit.
  7. Evaluate the Reset Actions and Summary, making changes as needed, then click Submit.
  8. When done, you will be taken to the Manage Alerts page which will indicate the alert was created successfully.
