Asset Inventory does not display Windows Update data

This article describes an issue where Asset Inventory does not display Windows Update data in the Asset Inventory tab.


All SAM versions


The data is not available via WMI or there is an issue with the assigned polling engines to the node.


To check the data source in WMI:

  1. Establish a remote connection to the SolarWinds server which polls the target node.
  2. Click Run and enter wbemtest.
  3. Enter the following information:
    Namespace: \\IPofTarget\root\cimv2
    User: DOMAIN\Username
    Password: enter your password
    Authority: leave the field empty
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Click Query.
  6. Paste and run the following query:
SELECT * FROM Win32_QuickFixEngineering

If the above steps return an error, there is an issue with the WMI repository on the server. If it returns no data there is an issue with the Windows Update information being provided to the WMI Class.


To fix and resubmit the polling engines: 

  1. Go to the Node Details page of the server in question.
  2. Click List Resources.
  3. Clear the Asset Inventory box.
  4. Click Submit Changes.
  5. Click List Resources.
  6. Select the Asset Inventory box.
  7. Click Submit Changes.

The updated information should be available on the next poll.
