Application monitor names should not include special characters in SAM

Updated 1-6-2017

Overview

When adding application monitors in SAM, to templates or directly to nodes, do not use special characters in the name. Using special characters such as commas, quotation marks, and punctuation can cause issues with the monitor and scripts to fail. For example, using quotes in application monitor names for Java scripts represents a line break to Java. With special characters in the name, the Poll Now and Unmanage button on the Application Details page may be disabled.

Environment

  • SAM

Cause

Special characters in application monitor names for script monitors may cause issues with detail page options, polling, and triggered errors. Special characters may be interpretted by scripts and applications as commands.

Resolution

Remove all special characters from application monitor names. For a best practice, do not use special characters in application monitor, component monitor, or template names.
