AppInsight for SQL error: The process was not found

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when instances show that the SQL Server/SQL Agent is down with following error :

The process was not found.

All other meters and charts on the page are showing data collection and it is just the actual services that are not being found resulting to SQL servers showing errors.


SAM version 6.0 and later


The error is caused when the Debug program security setting was modified and the account used for polling is not part of the Administrators group.


This error can also be caused by a broken 32-bit WMI Class.



Solution 1

  1. Go to Local Security Settings.
  2. Under Security Settings in the console tree, expand Local Policies and select User Rights Assignment.
  3. Click Debug programs on the right pane and change the Security Setting to Administrators.6311_1.jpg
  4. Re-try the polling process.



Solution 2

  1. Open the problematic AppInsight for SQL application in the web console.
  2. Click Edit Application.
  3. Change Platform to run polling job on from x86 to x64. 
  4. Submit the changes.
