AppInsight for SQL: CPU usage is at 100%

Overview

The CPU usage is at 100%.

Environment

All SAM versions 
Monitoring versions below Cumulative update package 5 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3
Monitoring SQL server Cumulative update package 7 for SQL Server 2008

Cause

The execution of a command in Appinsight for SQL Server for the component item SQL Event Log Monitor exec xp_readerrorlog stops responding and the usage of the CPU that is running the command increases to 100 percent. This is a known Microsoft issue.
 

Resolution

Apply the Microsoft hotfix located at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973524
