Antivirus software identifies the GETPENDINGUPDATES file created by SAM as a threat

Updated November 28, 2018

Overview

An antivirus software program scanning for potential threats in the system will occasionally find an issue with GETPENDINGUPDATES.VBS.CMD file created by SAM. This file is used by SAM to collect data for asset inventory and Windows Updates on a target server.

Environment

  • SAM 6.7

Cause

Aggressive antivirus scanning sees the GETPENDINGUPDATES.VBS.CMD as a false-positive issue because it incorporates a double file extension.
