WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Agent constantly loses connection

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when the Agent constantly loses connection.

The following error appears in the Agent Business Layer log:

ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Common.CoreErrorHandler - Error occurred on Business Layer call. Type: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException
Message: 'The socket connection was aborted. This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue.

All SAM versions

The following steps is a workaround:

The agent needs to be configured to use local host as the hostname. To do this:

  1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Agent.
  2. Open SolarWinds.Agent.Service.exe.cfg.
  3. In the <target> section, search for <host0>(server name)</host0>
  4. Change (server name) to localhost.</target>

Note: This only applies to the agent running on the actual polling engine.
