Active Agent cannot connect to the Orion Server and the Agent installation fails in SAM


An agent in active mode cannot connect to the Orion server and if the Agent is manually installed from .msi, the installation fails.
Once the connection details are provided during installation, the process starts but ends with an error and the Agent is not installed.


SAM version 6.2 


Microsoft previously released an optional security fix (KB977377) that changes the way to secure communication works. Depending on the settings and the Operating system version on the client and server, secure communication for agent may not work properly.


Note: Ensure that you have the latest system updates from both the Orion server and Agent machine.
  1. On the machine where the Agent is installed, open the registry editor.
  2. On the left pane, expand to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Control > SecurityProviders > SCHANNEL.
  3. Look for the string DisableRenegeOnClient and set the value to 0.
  4. Re-install the Agent.


If there is no such string in the registry or if the value is already set to 0 and the agent still cannot be properly installed, contact SolarWinds support.
