SAM APM BusinessLayerPlugin tracelog.svclog in C:\temp is growing rapidly

Overview

SAM's APM_BusinessLayerPlugin_tracelog.svclog in C:\temp is growing rapidly.

SAM was previously called APM so you may still see references to APM in SAM logs and message.

Environment

All SAM versions

Resolution

  1. Navigate to the APM Businesslayer config file, found at: C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\APM\SolarWinds.APM.BusinessLayer.dll.config
  2. Open this file in Notepad.
  3. Find the section <system.diagnostics> (it is closer to the bottom).
  4. You should see a couple of lines that look like:
    <source name="System.ServiceModel" switchValue="Off,ActivityTracing" propagateActivity="true">
  5. Change the switchValue to "Off" anywhere you see it.

 

If the above steps do not work, try the following:

  1. Delete the entire <system.diagnostics> section from the config file
  2. Stop services
  3. Delete the temp folder (or the .svclog file),
  4. Restart services.
  5. Check to make sure the file is not re-created.
