Increase SAM Real Time tool timeout

Table of contents

Overview

This article describes how to increase the timeout for the SAM Real Time tool to improve the server response time.

Environment

SAM 6.0 or later

Steps

Warning: SolarWinds strongly recommends that you only edit the SolarWinds.APM.BusinessLayer.dll.config file as instructed. Any additional modifications may result in system performance issues or may create an error state.

  1. Locate and open the SolarWinds.APM.BusinessLayer.dll.config file. The default location is C:\\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\APM\SolarWinds.APM.BusinessLayer.dll.config
  2. Find the RealTimeSettings section and modify with ServicePollingTimeout and ServiceJobLifetime settings as the following:
 <RealTimeSettings
ServiceLocalHostUnmanagedServiceNames="Winmgmt, RpcSs, eventlog, MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS, SQLEXPRESS, MSSQLSERVER, OrionModuleEngine, SWJobEngineSvc, SWJobEngineSvc2, SWJobSchedulerSvc, SWCollectorPollingControllerSvc, SWCollectorManagementAgentSvc, SWCollectorDataProcessorSvc"
ServiceRemoteHostUnmanagedServiceNames="Winmgmt, RpcSs, eventlog"
CaptureRecording="false"ServicePollingTimeout="00:03:00"ServiceJobLifetime="00:05:00" />

   3. Restart the Solarwinds Orion Module Engine. The Real Time tool timeout is now increased.
