Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following error:

401 - Unauthorized

The Appinsight for IIS's HTTP Bindings Monitor and/or HTTPS Bindings Monitor attempts to monitor the ability to connect to the website using its binding information.

Environment

  • SAM version 6.2 or later
  • Any website requiring credentials

Cause

The issue is caused when the web site requires login information but the HTTP Binding Monitor and/or HTTPS Binding Monitor do not have any login information.

Resolution

There are two methods to resolve the issue:

If all web sites require the same login information:

1. Open the Appinsight for IIS Details page.
2. Click Edit Application Monitor on the top-right of the page.
3. Open the HTTP Bindings Monitor and/or HTTPS Bindings Monitor sections.
4. Change the Credential from <Inherit Windows Credential from Node> to the appropriate credential.
5. Click Submit.
6. Click Poll Now.

If each web site requires different login information:

1. Open the Appinsight for IIS Details page.
2. Click the Site in question, within the "Sites" Web Resource.

3. Click the "Edit Thresholds" link at the top-right of the page.
4. Open the "HTTP Bindings Monitor" and/or "HTTPS Bindings Monitor" sections.
5. Change the Credential from <Inherit Windows Credential from Node> to the desired credential.
6. Click "Submit".
7. Repeat steps 2 - 7 for every site that requires authentication.

8. Click "Poll Now" from the Applications details page.

To add credential(s):

1. Go to Settings > SAM Settings > Credentials Library.

b. Click Add New Credential.

c. Enter credentials.
