Overview

This article describes the issue when using a custom SQL resource that takes a large amount of time to execute and you receive the following error:

There was an issue while rendering resource with id xxx

Environment

  • All versions of SAM
  • All versions of NPM custom resource using SQL

Cause 

This issue occurs when the query taking longer to execute than the timeout value indicated in the SWNetPerfMon.db file.

Resolution

 

  • Verify the SQL server is not having performance issues
  • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion.
  • Copy a backup of SWNetPerfMon.DB file on a separate folder on the server.
  • Edit the original SWNetPerfMon.DB file.
  • Scroll at the bottom Database Command Timeout In Seconds
  • Under Database Command Timeout In Seconds change the commandtimeout value to a value greater than the time it takes to execute this query.
