"Critical" is missing from Volume Status Alert criteria

Updated March 11th, 2016

Overview

When configuring an Alert for Volumes based on Volume Status, only the following options are available and "Critical" is missing:

1 up
2 down
3 warning
0 unknown
9 unreachable
14 unmanaged

Environment

  • All versions of Windows
  • All versions of SAM

Cause

The Volume Status information is based on SAM's ability to monitor the Volume, not the Volume's disk usage.  If SAM is not able to retrieve the drive's information from SNMP's HOST-RESOURCES (1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.3.1.3) or within WMI's Win32_LogicalDisk WMI Class, the status of the drive is no longer Up.  Having said that, "Critical" is not status in this scenario.

Resolution

Currently, there is no resolution for this known issue.
