Overview

This article describes how to configure the SAM Oracle Database template to monitor Oracle database servers, which involves installing one of the following drivers to support polling by SAM and other SolarWinds products:

.

Environment

  • SAM 6.1 or later

Steps

Prepare for Installation

Before installing a driver, follow these steps:

  1. Verify the server uses one of the following Oracle databases:
  2. Use an Oracle name and password with read access to the following Oracle views:
    • dba_free_space
    • v$sysstat
    • v$rowcache
    • v$librarycache
    • v$sgastat
    • v$session

Option 1: Install an Oracle Data Provider for .NET (ODP.Net) driver

Oracle registration is required to download the ODP.Net driver, but it is free. If you opt not to register with Oracle, then you can download the Basic Lite Client instead, as described in option 2.

  1. Download the 32-bit version of ODP.Net driver from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/dotnet/index-085163.html.

Note: Download the 32-bit version of ODP.Net, even if SAM is installed on a 64-bit version of Windows.

  1. Uninstall any version of the Oracle Client, including the SolarWinds Basic Lite Oracle Client.
  2. Verify that the following directory is empty if it exists. If it is not empty, stop all Orion services and remove the directory before continuing.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Solarwinds\Orion\APM\OracleClient\.

If you do not want to register with Oracle, download the Basic Lite Client from the SolarWinds Customer Portal.

In the Product Downloads section of the Customer Portal, select Server & Application Monitor > any license > Additional Downloads > Oracle Client, and then click Download.

ServerLocation and installation instructions can be found on page 9.

2.Download and follow the instructions in the Configuring and Integrating Oracle guide.

  1. Log into the SolarWinds Customer Portal.
  2. In the Product Downloads section, select Server & Application Monitor > any license > Additional Downloads > Oracle Client, and then click Download.
