AppInsight for SQL status is grey or red for the sqlserver.exe process but is green for all other components

Overview

The AppInsight for SQL status shows as grey or red for a process, yet all the components show as green.

For example: When using the RPC method, the sqlserver.exe process shows as grey. When using the WMI method, the same process shows as red. However, the icon for the components shows as green.

 

When debugging the application and inserting the command into wbemtest, the command line value is empty. When displaying the command line for the sqlserver.exe process in Windows Task Manager, the command line is filled out.

Environment

  • All SAM versions
  • Use of AppInsight for SQL to monitor SQL Servers

Cause 

The WMI account used in the command line does not have administrator access at the host level.  

Resolution

Verify that the user account credentials used to log into AppInsight for SQL have local administrator rights at the host level.
