AppInsight for IIS - Log Parsing Monitor SQL error: The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value

Updated April 7, 2017

Overview

When polling an IIS server with AppInsight for Exchange, the Log Parsing Monitor for all websites displays the following error:

Unexpected error occurred. error while processing component ABIM:xxxxx, error details:
The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value.

Environment

SAM 6.2 and later

Cause

This occurs when the regional settings between the SQL Server, the polled IIS server and the Orion server do not match.

Resolution

  1. Establish a remote connection to one of the servers (Orion, IIS, or SQL).
  2. Go to Control Panel > Region.
  3. Check the Short Date, Long Date, and other date formats.
  4. Check the same settings on the other servers and verify that they match up.

If the issue persists, check the settings of the SQL login used for Orion:

  1. On your SQL Server, go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > SQL Server Management Studio.
  2. Using sa credentials, log in to the SQL Server instance hosting your Orion database.
  3. Expand Security > Logins.
  4. Right-click the SolarWinds Orion user, and then click Properties.
  5. In the Select a page pane, click General.
  6. In the Default language field, select English.
  7. Click OK.
