Overview

When polling an IIS Web Server using AppInsight for IIS, the following error is thrown when attempting to poll the Log Parsing Monitor:

Unexpected error occurred. Error while processing component ABIM:xxx,
error details: Incorrect syntax near ','.

Environment

SAM 6.2 and later

Cause

The cause of this issue is due to the Logging Level on the website not having all the required fields selected.

Resolution

  1. Open a Remote Desktop to the target Web Server.
  2. Open IIS Manager with the Server Manager OR via Run > inetmgr.
  3. Select the affected web site in the left-hand pane.
  4. Double-click "Logging" in the right-hand pane.
  5. Click Select Fields.
  6. Ensure all of the following fields are selected:
    1. Date
    2. Time
    3. URI Stem
    4. URI Query
    5. Method
    6. Client IP Address
    7. Time Taken
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Apply in the right hand pane under Actions.
  9. AppInsight for IIS should now be able to poll correctly. It may take a day to poll correctly depending on the Log File Rollover settings in IIS.
