AppInsight for IIS Polling fails - Process requires elevated status to access IIS configuration data

Updated 6-28-2016

Overview

Your IIS PowerShell polling fails giving you the following error: The installed PowerShell WebAdministration module cannot be imported into the PowerShell session.  System.InvalidOperationException: Process should have elevated status to access IIS configuration data.

Environment

  • All SAM versions

Cause

Remote User Account Control (UAC) LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy registry setting affects how administrator credentials are applied to remotely administer the computer.

Resolution

You will need to edit your registry to resolve this issue.

  1. Access your registry.
  2. Set LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy in registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system to 1.
If the value is missing, add it to the subkey and set it to 1.
