Add the temperature variable for hardware sensor alerts

Table of contents

Updated June 20, 2017

Overview

This article describes how to add an alert variable for temperature in Fahrenheit for hardware sensor based alerts.

Currently, SolarWinds stores temperature information in the database in Celsius. The trigger conditions using this value need to be defined when you set up the hardware alert on the sensors with temperature metrics.

Environment

SAM 6.2 and later

Steps

  1. Make sure that the email alert is based on the hardware sensor.
    Note: The ${N=SwisEntity;M=Value} variable gives you a temperature value in Celsius in the email alert.
  2. Add the following variable or function to the email action of the alert:
    ${SQL: SELECT (${N=SwisEntity;M=Value}* 9 / 5) + 32 }
