Serv-U configurations cause slow FTP performance

Overview

Some configurations and activities may cause a slow down in the FTP performance.

Environment

Serv-U V15 and later

Cause

If database users have a very large number of virtual drives and directory access rules setup, then the access and very high number of connections causes a slow down.

Resolution

  1. Reduce the number of virtual drives by reorganising the directory structure to allow fewer levels of folders and a flatter structure.
  2. Move the folders to the Local drive of Serv-U by moving the data from remote devices to drives on the Serv-U server.
  3. Limit the number of concurrent connections per user in Domain > Limits and settings > limits > Connection, 'Maximum number of sessions for user account'.
