Overview

This article describes how to upgrade to the latest version of Serv-U.

Environment

All Serv-U versions

Steps

Upgrade from Serv-U 7.0 or later:

  1. Back up your old Serv-U settings. See instructions on how to back up or move Serv-U settings.
  2. Download the licensed version of Serv-U from the Customer Portal, and save it to a temporary directory.
  3. Open the file, and run the program.
  4. When a notification prompts, overwrite the existing version.

The new version of Serv-U can be installed directly to your local without intermediary builds.

Upgrade from Serv-U 3.0 to 6.4:

If you are upgrading from this version, upgrading to a build of Serv-U from 7 to 12.0.02 before proceeding is a must. If you do not have access to one of these versions, contact Technical Support.

Upgrade from Serv-U 2.5:

If you are upgrading from this legacy version of Serv-U, you must send the configuration files to SolarWinds Technical Support to be upgraded to the new format in order to save the users and settings. The update from Serv-U 2.5 requires a special internal utility to save these files.

This is only applicable for Serv-U 2.5 users. All other users can upgrade directly to the current Serv-U release with no other requirements needed.
