Upgrade to Serv-U on Windows Environment

Steps to upgrade to version on windows environment


Serv-U version 12 and up with supported operating system

  • Windows Vista/7/8, Server 2008/2012
  • Windows 2000/XP, Server 2000/2003
  • Linux


1) Shut down all running Serv-U processes.
    i)  Right-click the tray icon, and then select "Stop Serv-U".
    ii) Right-click the tray icon, and then select "Exit Tray".
2) Make a backup copy of the following files:

  • Serv-U.Archive file
  • Users folder
  • Serv-UID.txt file

These files are either stored in:

  • Windows Vista/7/8, Server 2008/2012 - C:\ProgramData\RhinoSoft\Serv-U (Folder is Hidden in Windows by default)
  • Windows 2000/XP, Server 2000/2003 - C:\Program Files\RhinoSoft\Serv-U
  • Linux - /usr/local/Serv-U

3) Run as administrator
4) Start the Serv-U tray application.
5) Right-click the tray icon, and then select "Start Serv-U".
