Translate the Serv-U user interface

Overview

This article provides steps to customize the language for Serv-U user interface.

Environment

  • All Serv-U versions
  • The translations of the Serv-U user interface are stored in regular UTF-8 encoded text files

 

Steps

To translate the user interface of Serv-U, modify the file appropriate to your language and the component you want to translate. 

Warning: Before making any changes to a strings file, create a backup copy first.

 

For example, to translate the Web Client to your language, perform the following steps:

  1. Locate the following files on your computer:
    • [InstallDir]\Client\Web Client\Strings\Strings.strings
    • [InstallDir]\Client\Web Client\Strings\Strings_[LanguageCode].strings

    Where [InstallDir] is the directory where Serv-U installed. The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\RhinoSoft\Serv-U.
  2. Compare the English strings file (Strings.strings) to the Strings_[LanguageCode] file, and look for the missing and untranslated portions in the Strings_[LanguageCode] file.
  3. Copy the missing sections from the English strings file to the Strings_[LanguageCode] file.
  4. Make the appropriate changes in the Strings_[LanguageCode] file.

Important: Only edit the Strings_[LanguageCode] file. The English version of this file is protected from changes.

 

Notes:

  • The installation of a new Serv-U version might overwrite the existing files. After performing an upgrade of Serv-U, copy your translations over to the system again.
  • Restart Serv-U after after copying over the translations.
