Socket Error: Unknown Socket Error (1814)

Overview

This article addresses the following error displayed even when there were no software upgrades or changes made to the machine:

All Serv-U versions

Cause 

This occurs when the router or firewall disregards the HOST command sent by the client. Most firewalls or routers monitor FTP sessions to ensure that proper IP address information is used for PASV mode data transfers and may fail when they receive unexpected commands, such as the HOST command.

Resolution

  1. Go to Site Profile Manager > Advanced > Connection.
  2. Clear the "Use HOST before login" option to disable the HOST command.
