Error: Home directory does not exist

Updated April 12, 2017

Overview

This article describes the issue when you receive the Home directory does not exist error message.

Environment

All Serv-U versions

Resolution

When configuring Serv-U as a system service on a system running Windows XP/Server 2003 or newer operating systems, the Serv-U service runs under the Local System account by default. Because the Local System account has no network privileges, it prevents Serv-U from accessing home directories located in UNC paths and generates the Home directory does not exist error. To resolve this issue, see the following link:

Configure Serv-U and FTP Voyager Scheduler to access network files or folders

Note: When testing Serv-U, SolarWinds recommend using the FTP Voyager because of its logging capabilities.

Another possible cause is Windows and LDAP authentication is running at the same time. Please make sure that only one method is active to prevent this issue.
