Creating the home directory on user creation

Table of contents

Updated May 31, 2018

Overview

By default, SolarWinds® Serv-U® automatically creates each user's Home Directory when the user logs in for the first time. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to create the Home Directory immediately so that files can be placed in the directory for the user before their first login. You can configure Serv-U Managed File Transfer (MFT) Server to automate this task, removing the need to manually create the path and directory.

Environment

  • All Serv-U versions

Steps

  1. Log in to the Serv-U Management Console.
  2. Click Domain Details > Events.
  3. Click Add to add a new Event.
  4. Configure a name to the event. For example:
    Automatic Home Directory Creation
creating home directory on user creation.JPG
  5. Set the Action to Execute Command.
  6. Set the Executable Path to
    C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe
  7. Set the Command Line Parameters to:
    /C mkdir $LocalHomeDirectory
  8. Click Save.
Each new user will now trigger the event, which automatically creates their home directory.
