FTP Voyager JV fails to launch after installing Java update on Mac OSX

Overview

FTP Voyager JV fails to launch after installing the Java update for Mac OSX 10.5.

The Java update fails to launch the Java Web Start application that opens the.jnlp file extension. The update deletes the old Java Web Start application located in /Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Web Start and creates a new Java Web Start application and stores it in /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start. In some cases, the update does not appear to rebuild the launch services database.

Environment

All Serv-U versions

Resolution

Open a Finder window, and then go to /System/Library/CoreServices
Note: Any application that is in CoreServices which is not registered in the launch services database will be added.

 

If FTP Voyager JV fails to launch again, follow these steps to associate the .jnlp file with the Java Web Start application:

Safari users

1. Go to the Safari Download Manager, and then select the downloaded .jnlp file.

2. Click the Finder button.

3. Select the .jnlp file.

4. Click Properties > Get Info.

 

 

5. Select Open with Java Web Start.app.

6. Click Change All, and then click Continue. 

 

 

7. Relaunch FTP Voyager JV by reloading the page.

Firefox users

1. Open Preferences from Firefox.

2. Go to the Application tab.

3. Select .jnlp file.

4. Select Use Java Web Start from the toggle button. 

Note: You can also select Use Java Web Start through /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.

5. Relaunch FTP Voyager.
