FTP Voyager JV fails to launch after a Java Runtime Environment update

Overview

The FTP Voyager JV fails to launch after updating the Java Runtime Environment.

Environment

All Serv-U versions

Cause

This occurs when the .jnlp files used to launch FTP Voyager JV are incorrectly associated in Windows after updating the Java Runtime Environment.

Resolution

Windows 7 or Windows Vista

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Using the Large Icons view, click Default Programs.
  3. Select Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
  4. From the list of available programs, select Java(TM) Web Start Launcher.

Windows XP

  1. Right-click the .jnlp file and select Properties.

  2. On the General tab of the Properties window, change the Opens with entry.

  3. In the Open With window, select Java(TM) Web Start Launcher.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open the Firefox Options window.
  2. Go to the Applications tab and select JNLP File.

  3. Change the action to Use Java(TM) Web Start Launcher.
    Note: You may have to select it by going to /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.

Opera

  1. Open the Opera Preferences window.
  2. On the Advanced tab, select Downloads.

  3. Locate the .jnlp file extension in the list, and then click Edit.
  4. In the Open with other application field, enter the following:
    "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaws.exe" "%s"
