Unable to gather Windows versions of IE 8 on the Patch Manager server

Overview

This article resolves an issue that prevents you from gathering the Microsoft® Windows® versions of Internet Explorer® 8 on the Patch Manager server for verifying reports.

Environment

All Patch Manager versions

Resolution

  1. Open the Patch Manager Admin Console.

  2. In the navigation pane, expand Enterprise and select Managed Computers.

  3. Select the machine you want to configure.

  4. In the Actions pane, click Inventory.

  5. In the Inventory Options window, select Inventory – include specific datasources, and then select Create a custom inventory configuration template.

  6. Click OK.
  7. In the Inventory Configuration Editor window, uncheck all datasources except Computer (Registry Information) and Registry.

  8. Click OK.
  9. In the File, Directory and Registry Datasource Configuration tab, click Remove All.

  10. Click OK.
  11. Click Manually Add/Modify.
  12. In the Add or Edit Registry Key or Value window, complete the Registry Key Path field, select Include Registry Value and String, and then enter a Value Name.

  13. Click Save
  14. In the Inventory Configuration Editor window, select the datasource you added, and then click OK.

    The selected data source may increase the time required for inventory collection.

  15. In the Task Options Wizard – Inventory Task window, select the machine, and then click Next.
  16. Click Next > Finish.
  17. In the navigation pane, expand Administration and Reporting and select Active Task.

  18. Verify that the task is set to Running.
  19. In the navigation pane, expand Enterprise> Reporting > Configuration Management Reports and select Computer Registry Information.
  20. Select Basic Registry Information, and then click Run Report.
    The Registry Path, Registry Object Name, and other information for Internet Explorer display in the tab window.
