The following error message is received when trying to schedule Update Management with rules tasks:

The scope resolution task failed to execute. Scope Type not implemented for Scope Analyzer. 


Patch Manager 2.1 and later


The computers or containers selected in the task caused the scope to fail.


  1. Double click the error to see this window:
    Note the timestamp of when the task was created. We see here it is 3:42:51 p.m.
  2. Go into the scheduled tasks to make sure that the computers or containers are selected for the task by using the time stamp from step 2.
    Note: From matching up the time stamp for the task that ran did not have any computers or containers selected, causing the scope failure.
  3. Modify or recreate the task to include computers / containers.
