SQL database fills up

Updated November 3rd, 2016

Overview

Receiving errors while performing Management tasks from Patch Manager may be related to a full database.

Environment

All Patch Manager versions

Cause

If the SQL database is filling up you may see an error like this:

Exception occurred at <time>: Source: Application Server (<server>)
Reason: The Configuration Management Task failed to create the task transactions in the task results table. Reason: Could not allocate space for object 'dbo.ewtasksresults'.'PK_ewtasksresults' in database 'EminentWare' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full. Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup.

Resolution

  1. Delete unneeded tasks from Task History.
  2. Migrate the database to a full instance of SQL 2008 or 2012 that supports larger database sizes.
