Remove old versions of Java with PM

This article provides steps on how to set up a task to remove the old versions of Java as the Update Management Task to remove Java is only Partial Success.


All versions of Patch Manager


  1. Either in the Managed Computers Node or WSUS Computers and Groups, locate a workstation or server that you know has an old version of Java that you want to remove.
  2. Right-click the workstation and select Computer Explorer.
  3. Select the Installed Software Tab.
  4. Highlight the version or versions of Java you want to remove and click Uninstall Software. You can select multiple versions, but keep in mind that the workstations and servers you add to the task also need these exact versions of Java or they will create an error.
  5. Verify the version of Java listed here are the correct ones to remove and click uninstall.
  6. Add all workstations and servers to the list with the same version of Java to be removed.
  7. Run the task now or schedule it, and then click Finish.
