Overview

This article addresses the following error that appears when running the Configuration Wizard while Patch Manager exists on the same server as NPM:

Error: < Exception while configuring Patch Manager component Patch manager services. Registering WMI provider failed. Incorrect function >

The following error also appears in the Install.log.txt file:

An exception occurred during the Install phase.

System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path

 'C:\Windows\system32\WBEM\Framework\root\eminentware_datagridserver\EminentWare.DataGridServer.WMIProviders'.

Environment

  • Patch Manager 2.1.1
  • NPM 11.5
  • NPM 12.0

Cause

This occurs when the system is unable to find the location of the WMI directory.

Resolution

Perform any of the following options:

  • Move the contents of C:\WIndows\system32\WBEM\Framework\root\eminentware_datagridserver\  from a working install of Patch Manager to this directory on the affected server.
  • Remove Patch Manager from the Orion server and run a repair. Once the repair is complete, install the Patch Manager Web Console on the Orion server. If you get the same WMI error, use the previous option.
