Publish and deploy third-party updates with WSUS

Overview

This article goes over publishing and deploying updates with the WSUS extension pack for Patch Manager.

Environment

  • Patch Manager version 2.1
  • WSUS version 3.x and 6.x

Steps

  1. Navigate to Administration and Reporting > Software Publishing > Select a catalog.
  2. Select the Update you wish to Publish and right-click (or in the Actions Pane) > Publish Packages. Do not select any of the options other than Deploy Selected Packages.
  3. Continue to follow the prompts to publish the update to your WSUS server.
  4. Once the Update is published, navigate to Enterprise > Update Services > Your WSUS > Updates > Third Party Updates.
  5. Select the Update and in the Actions Pane select Approve. Once the update is approved the next time the clients check into WSUS they will get the updates.

You can also use Update Management in the Actions Pane and follow the prompts to install it on your desired clients.

Update Management Wizard will allow you to use a rule selection based on the approval to have the update installed read the selections for the scenario that is best for you.
