Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool generates errors when gathering logs

When you run the Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool as an non-admin user with UAC enabled and click Gather logs, the following error message displays:

Application attempted to perform an operation now allows by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission, contact your system administrator, or use the Microsoft .NET Framework Configuration tool.

  • Patch Manager 2.0
  • Patch Manager 2.1.x
  • Microsoft® Windows Server® 2012 R2 with User Account Control (UAC) enabled

The Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool requires administrator rights to run correctly.

Start the Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool with administrative rights.

  1. Log in to the Patch Manager server as an administrator.
  2. In the Windows Server operating system, navigate to the Apps menu.
  3. In the SolarWinds menu, right-click Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool and select Run as administrator.
  4. In the Server Diagnostics window, click Gather logs.
The Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool should now run without generating an error.

See How to run Patch Manager Diagnostics and enable logging for information about using the Patch Manager Full Diagnostics utility.
