Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool Errors When Gathering Logs

When running the Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool as an non-admin user with UAC enabled, you may experience errors when clicking on "Gather logs." The following error message is displayed.

Application attempted to perform an operation now allows by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission, contact your system administrator, or use the Microsoft .NET Framework Configuration tool.


  • Patch Manager 2.0
  • Patch Manager 2.1
  • Server 2012 R2 with UAC enabled


The Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool requires administrator rights to run correctly.


  1. Click the Windows Start button.
  2. Type Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool.
  3. Right-click the Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool and select Run as administrator.
  4. Click Gather logs.


The Patch Manager Diagnostic Tool should now run without error.
