Wake on LAN (WoL) is an industry standard protocol used to remotely power on Wake on LAN-enabled computers using a UDP broadcast on the local subnet. Patch Manager uses Wake on LAN in conjunction with scheduled tasks to patch computers that are not powered on or in a low power mode.

After you schedule the Wake on LAN, Update Management, and Shutdown or Reboot Computers tasks, you can power on remote computers, apply the updates you specify, and then shut down the computer when the update is finished.
