To make a successful WMI connection with a remote system, Windows requires the following:

  • File & Print Sharing enabled on the remote system
  • WMI Firewall Exception on the remote system
  • Credentials with local administrator rights on the remote system in the Patch Manager Credential Ring
  • RPC Service enabled on the remote system
  • Distributed COM (DCOM) enabled on the remote and local systems
  • Ports 135, 445, and dynamic ports 1024 to 65536 open between Patch Manager and the remote system

For additional information about the port requirements for WMI connections, see "Port and Firewall Information".
