Updated: 2/23/2012

These release notes provide additional guidance for SolarWinds Patch Manager v1.72.218.2 (previously EminentWare Extension Packs and 3rd Party Updates).

Why Install This Version

This version of Patch Manager provides the following improvements:

  • This version includes a single license for WSUS Extension Pack, SCCM Extension Pack, and all third-party updates.
  • In this version, your Primary Application Server (PAS) automatically updates the license on all of your Secondary Application Servers (SAS), so you no longer have to copy the license to each individual server.
  • This version enables two-way communication between your PAS and all SASs, which allows all of your Patch Manager servers to draw from a single license pool.

Note: Upgrading to Patch Manager v1.72.218.2 imposes new licensing requirements. For additional information, see Using the New Licensing System in these release notes.

Using the New Licensing System

Part way through the installation wizard, you are prompted to enter the licensing information for your product.

Note: When you install or upgrade Patch Manager on a Secondary Application Server (SAS), the Licensor window still appears. Since you only have to license the Primary Application Server, click [x] when the first licensing window appears on your SAS, and then click Close on the second window.

To open the licensing utility outside of the installation wizard:

  • EminentWare customers: Open %ProgramFiles%\EminentWare\Server, and then run SolarWinds.PM.Licensor.
  • New customers: Click Start > All Programs > EminentWare > SolarWinds Licensing.

Managing Your Open Issues in Licensing

For information about managing your licenses for SolarWinds products, including how to deactivate or reuse a license, see SolarWinds License Manager.

Open Issues in Licensing

  • The SolarWinds Licensing utility does not show up in the Start Menu for EminentWare customers upgrading to Patch Manager 1.72.218.2.
  • Applying Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) to a licensed Patch Manager server invalidates the existing license. To reactivate your license, contact SolarWinds customer support.
  • If you enter the activation key from another SolarWinds product by mistake, the activation key for the other product is considered registered even though your actual product remains unlicensed. To return the activation key to your pool of unregistered licenses, contact SolarWinds customer support.
