Patch Manager - Error when migrating from an older version of MSSQL to MSSQL 2014+

Table of contents

Updated 10/9/2017

Overview

This article provides information on how to resolve connection issues caused by migrating from an older version of MSSQL to MSSQL 2014+.  Patch Manager sends a DataGrid Service error 1064.

Environment

  • Patch Manager 2.1+

Steps

The SQL Server tries to use algorithms for encrypting data and causes the error. If you use SQL Server 2016 and try to create a Symmetric Key or Asymmetric Key for encrypting data. And if you try to use an algorithm like TRIPLE_DES, you will get the following error:

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 20
Incorrect syntax near 'TRIPLE_DES
'.

To Fix these connection errors, the Compatibility on the Database must be changed so that the correct algorithm can be used for communication.

See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql...tibility-level for instructions on how to change the database compatibility.   (© 2017 Microsoft, available at www.microsoft.com, obtained on <10/9/2017.)
