Not sending any scheduled task completion emails

When you create a new scheduled task in SPM or try to change the options by going to properties of existing one, you get a message similar to below:

It appears that Email has not been configured and tested. Please go to Administration and Reporting > General Settings, Email Configuration, and test your configuration.


The scheduled tasks do not send out email notifications even though Email configuration is in place under Administration and Reporting -> General Settings -> Email Configuration - there is no test button available to test.

And following error is logged in task details tab:

SPM 2.1 and later


This is caused by a missing mail config setting under Application Server Options page.


  1. Add/Enable the mail configuration settings under Patch Manager System Configuration > Application Servers.
  2. Select the Application server > click Application server setting tab and adjust mail settings.
