Overview

When adding a WSUS server to Patch Manager, you may encounter an error similar to the following:

Could not connect to server:

Exception occurred at 

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 

Environment

Patch Manager 2.1 and earlier

Cause 

The error indicates that WSUS is not responding on the port configured and Patch Manager is unable to connect.

Resolution

  1. Confirm that WSUS is installed and running.
  2. Confirm the port WSUS is listening on.
  3. Confirm that Patch Manager is able to resolve the WSUS server and that the port being input in the connection wizard is correct.
  4. Verify that the WSUS has no errors in the Windows Event logs, Application logs and is functioning correctly.
