Overview

The following message similar to the below appears during Patch Manager installation and then the installer window closes:

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 System CLR Types are missing and they have to be re-installed.

Environment

Patch Manager v2.1.1\

Cause

This issue happens when Patch Manager and specifically the SQL pre-requisites were uninstalled and attempted to be installed again.

Resolution

Note: It is recommended to install the x64 and x86 versions for CLR Types and CLR Types 2008 as this is important to the process.

  1. Run the installer until it gets to the first screen. This unpacks all the sub-installers.
  2. Open a CMD prompt
  3. Type cd %TEMP%.
The installer unpacks to where the temp folder is located For example, C:\windows\temp\ and C:\Users\your-username\AppData\Local\Temp.
  4. Go to SWOrionSetup\SubInstallers.
  5. Look for the following Microsoft SQL Types directories:
    1. Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types
    2. Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types 2008
Note:  This may be under SWOrionSetup\SubInstallers and the Core folder that contains a version number.
  6. In each of these directories, go into both the x86 and x64 sub-directories and run the installer.
  7. If prompted with the Repair or Remove option, select Remove.
    Rerun the installer.
    Otherwise, just run the installer.
