Overview

Package rules within Patch Manager can vastly affect patch numbers even within WSUS.

This article describes how to match patch numbers in WSUS with SCCM.

Environment

All Patch Manager versions

Steps

  1. Open Patch Manager and find the package in question and create a duplicate.
  2. Modify the duplicate package's applicability and pre-requisite rules to better suite your environment. A lot of the times, these rules are too strict and would not show as needed because they did not meet all the requirements. For more information, see Manage sofftware package rulesets.
  3. Once the package is complete, republish the package to the WSUS server.
  4. Once the package has been successfully published, go to the SCCM console and synchronize your SUP.
  5. Once the SUP has been synchronized and you can see the package in SCCM, the numbers for "computers needed" should be accurate and matched.
