Verifying the component versions in Patch Manager

Overview

The Patch Manager Application Server (PAS) is a snap-in for the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) Microsoft Management Console (MMC). When Microsoft releases a patch for WSUS, apply the patch to your WSUS and Patch Manager servers for your Patch Manager system to be fully functional.

WSUS requires all components in the WSUS publishing environment to be at the same version and service pack level. For example, if your primary WSUS server is at version 3 SP2, all of the other WSUS servers (including any Patch Manager Application Servers) must also be at version 3 SP2.

Use the steps below to verify that the components in your publishing environment are fully compatible with each other.

Steps

  1. Log in to Patch Manager as an administrator.
  2. In the Patch Manager menu, expand Administration and Reporting > Software Publishing.
  3. Select any package under the Software Publishing node.
  4. Click Server Publishing Verification Wizard in the Actions Pane.
  5. In the Publishing WSUS Server menu, select your primary WSUS server.
The wizard determines the servers associated with the selected server and verifies that all of the servers are compatible with one another. All related servers include a green checkmark next to the server.
If the wizard returns an error for any of the servers, resolve the issue according to the description in the Message column, and then rerun the Server Publishing Verification Wizard.
  6. Click Close to close the wizard.
