Unable to install Windows patches on Windows 10 computers

When you push updates to managed computers running Microsoft® Windows® 10, the updates may not install on the computers or fail, generating the following message:

The object invoked has disconnected from its clients COM Exception: 
Error Code: 0x80010108

When you reinstall the WMI provides, some targeted Windows 10 computers report a successful installation, but not all computers.

  • Microsoft Windows 10


Issues with Windows Updates.


  1. Reset the update store.
    1. Disable the Windows Update Service.
    2. Stop the Windows Update Service.
  2. Restart the machine.
  3. Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder.
  4. Re-enable the Windows Update service.
  5. Start the Windows Update Service.
    Patch Manager rebuilds its database by synchronizing with the WSUS server.
  6. Re-run the push task from Patch Manager on the affected computers. 
    The error should disappear and all updates will be installed on the affected computers.
