Skype update 8.13 and 8.15 deployment fails with Windows 10

Overview

You have Skype classic version 7.40 on machines which were upgraded from an older version of Windows to Windows 10. You are now trying to upgrade the Skype version to classic 8.13 or 8.15.

 

When you deploy the Skype version 8.15 update, the deployment process hangs and no errors are returned. When you check via WUA client on the Windows 10 machine it shows the update is available, but the installation fails without any errors. No errors in appear in the Windows update logs.

 

When you deploy the Skype version 8.13 update, error 0x80070020 is returned during installation.

Environment

  • Skype 8.13 & 8.15 updates
  • Patch Manager 2.1.5
  • Windows 10 clients

Cause 

Skype classic is no longer supported on Windows 10.

Resolution

Download and install the Skype version from the Microsoft store directly on the machine(s).
