Remove WMI Providers from managed computers

Table of contents

Updated February 1, 2018

Overview

The SolarWinds Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Providers for managed clients provide additional management and inventory tools that are not native to WSUS. Without them, you can only use Patch Manager to interface with WSUS, not directly with any managed clients.

Due to inventory or deployment tasks, WMI providers can be installed on workstations and servers by mistake. This article describes how to use Patch Manager to remove the WMI Providers from your managed computers.

Environment

All Patch Manager versions

Steps

  1. Log in to Patch Manager as an administrator.
  2. In the navigation pane, maximize Enterprise.
  3. Select the computer, server or laptop that is running the WMI Providers you want to remove.
  4. In the Actions menu, click Deploy Client Components.
  5. Select Remove Client Components, and click Next.
  6. Add any additional systems that need WMI Providers to be removed, and then click Next.
  7. Verify your selections, and click Finish.
Patch Manager removes the WMI providers from the selected computers, servers or laptops.
