Patch Manager tasks on OUs fail or partially complete

Updated February 28, 2018

When Patch Manager runs a task against an organizational unit (OU), the task fails or partially runs. When this occurs, the C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\PM\Log\EminentWare.WorkerProcess\EminentWare.WorkerProcess.exe.XXXXXX.XXXX.XXXX.log.txt file shows the below error:

LDAPConnection::ctor unable to translate forest name to DS_FQDN_1779_NAME.
DnsDomainName: AnExampleADName.local.internal ForestName: AnExampleADName.local.internal
Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Patch Manager versions earlier than 2.1.2

The task contains an empty OU.

Locate any empty OUs in the tasks that have an issue. If found:

Identify if there are any empty OUs in the tasks having an issue. If so, do one of the following:

  • Remove the empty OUs from the task
  • Add elements to the empty OUs
  • Upgrade to Patch Manager 2.1.2 or higher
