Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when Java packages do not remove the older versions from the system.

An option is to uninstall Java with provided switches.

Note: Only out of date versions of Java will be removed. The last two releases will remain installed, as per Java limitations.

Environment

Patch Manager version 1.85 or later

Steps

https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/doc...g_file_options

  1. Select the Package in Administration and Reporting > Software Publishing > Sun Packages.
  2. Once the package is selected, right-click and click Edit.
  3. In the Title you want to update it to something that reflects that this package uninstalls so it creates a new package.
    1. Example: Java Runtime Environment 8u92 (x86 for x64) (Upgrade) Uninstall old versions
  4. Go to the Select Package page as seen below:

  5. In the Command Line type the following:

    /s REMOVEOUTOFDATEJRES=1

  6. Click Next and continue to save the Package and Publish to WSUS.
